In recent years, several worldwide developments occur in the field of ‘gasification technology’. Ekolojik Enerji A.Ş. having its headquarter in Istanbul and situated in Integrated Waste Management and Clean Energy Generation Facility that was founded on a large area of almost 75 thousand square meters in Eyüp Kemerburgaz is pioneering the subject of ‘Energy Recovery from Waste through Gasification’.
Ekolojik Enerji A.Ş developing new energy recovery models as an alternative to the use of fossil fuel generates electric energy from waste through ‘gasification’ technique and moreover, it realizes various social responsibility projects with the purpose of contributing to the improvement of the social environmental awareness. It impresses the environmental awareness on a wide range of people from the children having education in the nursery schools to the university students by means of these projects.
Lecture of “Eco-Energy” will be given in the university.
Ekolojik Enerji firm is accomplishing a significant social responsibility project within the scope of its core business segments by performing a collaboration with some of the universities across Turkey. Bahçeşehir University developing Integrated Education Model of University – Business World through ‘CO-OP’ (Cooperative Education) in Turkey signed a protocol with the private company of integrated waste management and energy recovery, Ekolojik Enerji A.Ş. Within the frame of the protocol, a lecture entitled Eco-Energy will be given in the university’s Department of Environmental Engineering. The lectures given through the coordination of Selen Tanner, Vice General Manager of Ekolojik Enerji A.Ş., will be held within the scope of “Branded Lecture” that is one of the most characteristic innovations of CO-OP brought to the high education system of Turkey.
Field visits will be performed
Selen Tanner mentioning the importance of sharing her corporate experiences about the waste management hierarchy, one of our country’s current subjects gave the following information regarding the topics in the lecture of “Eco-Energy” that will be taught to the students studying in Environmental Engineering:
“In addition to the general situation regarding the sector of energy generation from waste and preventing pollution in the resource, the lectures about our firm’s subjects will be given to the students of Bahçeşehir University for 14 weeks by its specialist employees within the scope of comparing the thermochemical processes in waste management, waste categories and their management types, introduction of various processes, preparing refuse-derived fuel, gasification and producing syngas, gas cleaning and energy generation, SEÇ – K applications in waste-to-energy facilities, R & D projects and their patent processes. Moreover, the field visits and applied laboratory studies will be performed for the students of Bahçeşehir University.”
The environmental future of Turkey will be shaped
Selen Tanner stating that Ekolojik Enerji gives great importance to the collaboration of academy and industry and making collaborations in this sense said: “We believe that we bring new dimensions to the vision of young human resource with our R & D studies and the panels that we arranged both in the universities and high schools. We consider that the education that we will give will contribute to important gains for both the students and the sector.”
Selen Tanner specifying that only Ekolojik Enerji opened a lecture about Ecoenergy among 650 CO-OP partners of Bahçeşehir University continued her speech as follows: “Thus, the students will take the opportunity of seeing how to practice the information that they learnt at school, in the field in real business environment. The information they learnt is not theory any more, it is meeting with the life practices. They will deepen their perceptions and awareness with the experience that they gained here. Our friends who will recognize and adopt this approach will take their places in the business world within a few years. Although they do not work in this sector, they will figure the environmental future of Turkey as the ones who are aware of cleaner production and pollution prevention, and waste management hierarchy and had experiences about the studies in the field”.
Art Studio was established from waste
In the meantime, presentations are made to the students from high schools and their equivalents and universities in Conference Hall within the facilities of Ekolojik Enerji A.Ş and the facility is visited afterwards. Thus, it is targeted that it will contribute to the development of particularly the children’s environmental awareness from young ages. “Within the scope of our sustainable development project for increasing the environmental awareness as part of the eco-schools, we gave and we continue to give education about sustainable development, clean production, decomposition on the resource and industrial pollution to the students of Executive MBA in Drexel University and as well as to the students from certain universities, high schools and technical high schools in line with the demands of the overseas education institutions while we take the initial steps for establishing Environmental School,” said Selen Tanner, Vice General Manager of Ekolojik Enerji A.Ş.
A social responsibility project is conducted by Ekolojik Enerji with the purpose of raising the children’s awareness of environmental pollution. The students participating in the studies performed in ‘Art Studio from Waste’ bearing the name of ‘Ekobot’ which is an ecologist robot put their signatures under the studies themed “Pollution, Environment and Protecting the Environment” with the recyclable waste that they brought from their houses.
Italian designer’s support to the project…
Selen Tanner, Vice General Manager of Ekolojik Enerji A.Ş. informed about Ekobot Art Studio initiated as the social responsibility project:
“We regard handing down this awareness primarily to the children during the studies for increasing the environmental awareness. Ekobot became a character drawing the attention of the children. The games, film projections and painting practices are the activities through which we can improve their environmental awareness without bothering them. Raising the children who respect the environment and are informed about the resource management and recycling is very important for a clean and habitable world. We established EKOBOT Art Studio in order to make the adults of the near future feel practically the awareness of that every waste is not a garbage. The place of the resource management and recycling in our lives is told in the project of ‘Ekobot Art Studio’ that we execute together with the Italian artist, Grazia Zattarin making designs from waste materials. Thus, we give vision to the children who are the adults of the future. The children bring the recyclable materials that they separated in their houses for 1 week and the products such as the paintings, figurines, key holders and musical instrument are created. The support of the families, teachers, managers and students for hands-on education that we perform out of school becomes a very valuable motivation source,” said Selen Tanner.
We aim at new collaborations
Tanner expressing that they are quite pleased with ‘The studies of Ekobot Creativity Studio’ that they arranged by this time stated that: “We believe that each child gaining awareness about the environment and waste will forward the information that he/she learnt to his/her family and friends. The children who like to take the responsibility of taking a resource manager and a waste manager to each house will add value to the quality of our lives in the near future. We will continue to vary our studies, increase the points that we reached and actualize regularly. We aim at executing our project that we place considerable emphasis together with the related nongovernmental organizations in Turkey or the related associations or foundations in the environmental and recycling sectors.”

Ekobot runs on the solar energy…
EKOBOT giving its name to the Art Studio of Ekolojik Enerji comprises of the waste materials left out of use as a result of their expiration dates in accord with the recycling principles. Since the recycling and reutilization of the materials such as iron, steel, copper, lead, paper, plastic, rubber, glass, electronic waste prevent the natural resources to run short and make considerable savings from the energy used. Reutilization of the paper used in paper manufacturing reduces the air pollution, water pollution and use of water by 75-94%, 35% and 45%, respectively. The addition of one ton of waste paper in the pulp prevents 8 trees from being cut down. Therefore, EKOBOT eliminates each part making up the body and finds the necessary vital parts for itself in the part’s resource among the waste. The trunk, head, foot, right hand, left hand, hat, eyes and rotor for flying of EKOBOT are made of vegetable tin, saucepans and lids, parts of the mixer, flower watering jug, industrial machine parts, the memory of a retired pilot, crown corks and computer fan, respectively. EKOBOT operates in R & D Department of Recycling Unit in Ekolojik Enerji A.Ş. It is charged through the solar energy and uses the paper that it produced in intercompany written correspondences.
